2. General Instructions to Candidates
The RBSE Class 10 English examination requires strict adherence to the following instructions:
- Candidate must first write their Roll No. on the question paper compulsorily. This is mandatory for identification purposes.
- All the questions are compulsory. Students must attempt every question in the paper.
- Write the answer to each question in the given answer book only. Use of additional answer sheets should be avoided unless necessary.
- For questions having more than one part, the answers to those parts are to be written together in continuity. Do not scatter answers of sub-parts.
- Write the correct serial number of each question as mentioned in the question paper. Proper numbering ensures correct evaluation.

3. Section A - Reading Comprehension (30 Marks)
Section A tests the candidate's ability to comprehend unseen passages and extract information effectively. This section carries the highest weightage of 30 marks.
3.1 Passage 1: Comprehension on Rig Veda and Ancient Indian Culture
Passage:
The Rig Veda is India's most ancient text. As we know that it is several thousand years old. It gives the northwest region of the Subcontinent the name 'Sapta Sindhava', that is the 'Land of the seven rivers'. The word 'Sindhava' comes from 'Sindhu', which refers to the Indus River. Moving towards the south, one comes across other regions in the literature. The Mahabharata is one of India's most famous texts. It lists many regions such as Kashmir, Kurukshetra, Vanga, Kutch, Kerala.
The Mahabharata uses the terms "Bharatarvarsha" and Jambudvipa. Bharatarvarsha means the country of the Bharatas and Jambudvipa means the "island of the fruit of the jamun tree".

3.2 Passage 2: Harappa and Mohenjo-daro Civilizations
Passage:
Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, now in Pakistan, were the first two cities of this Civilisation to be discovered, their identification goes back to 1924, a century ago. The name Harappa is used generally for the Indus valley civilisation.
Later on Dholavira in Gujarat, Rakhigarhi in Haryana, Ganweriwala in Pakistan and Lothal in Gujarat were discovered. It is interesting to note that the Sarasvati basin includes not only the major cities, Rakhigarhi and Ganweriwala but also several smaller ones like Farmana, Banawali, Bhirrana in Haryana and Kalibangan in Rajasthan.
The Indus cities were separate built according to precise plans. They had wide streets which were often oriented to the cardinal directions. Most cities seem to have been surrounded by massive wall and had two distinct parts – the upper town, where the local leaders lived and the lower town, where common people lived.
Some large buildings seem to have been used for collective purposes – for instance, storing grains. Or they stored individual houses of various sizes lined the streets and smaller lanes. The construction was the same for small and big houses. All buildings were made of bricks.
The famous 'Great Bath' in Mohenjo-daro, a small but elaborate tank which measured about 12x7 metres and had waterproofing materials applied on top of carefully laid-out bricks. The tank was surrounded by small rooms, one of which contained a well, there was a drain in one corner of the tank to empty it from time to time and refill it with fresh water.

The evenings were particularly memorable. We watched a cultural show at Bagore Ki Haveli featuring traditional Rajasthani folk dances and music. The sunset view from the Fateh Sagar Lake was mesmerizing. The food was delicious too – we tried authentic Rajasthani thali and dal baati churma.
Udaipur truly lives up to its reputation as the "City of Lakes" and "Venice of the East." The entire trip was rejuvenating, and I wish you could have been there with us. I have taken many photographs and will show them to you when we meet.
Please give my regards to your parents and write back soon about your recent experiences.

The Two Cats and the Clever Monkey
Once upon a time, two cats found a large piece of bread. They wanted to divide it equally but couldn't agree on how to do it fairly. One piece always seemed bigger than the other, which led to a heated quarrel between them.
A clever monkey passing by noticed their argument and offered to help. "Don't worry, I'll divide it fairly," he said with a sly smile. He broke the bread into two pieces, but deliberately made one piece larger. "This piece is bigger," he announced and took a bite from it. Then he claimed the other piece was bigger and took a bite from that too.
The monkey continued this way, eating from both pieces alternately, each time claiming one was bigger than the other. The cats watched helplessly as the bread kept getting smaller and smaller. Finally, only two tiny crumbs remained. The monkey gave these to the cats and said, "These crumbs are your share, and I've taken my reward for the labor of dividing your bread fairly."
The cats realized their mistake. Their greed and inability to share peacefully had resulted in losing almost everything.
Moral: When you quarrel over small things, a third party may take advantage and both parties will suffer. It's always better to resolve disputes amicably among yourselves.
4.3 Paragraph Writing (6 Marks)
