Question:

Write an article on "The Importance of Exercise in Daily Life" in about 120-150 words.

Answer:

The Importance of Exercise in Daily Life

By [Your Name]

In today's fast-paced world, exercise has become more important than ever. Regular physical activity not only keeps our body fit but also enhances mental well-being. Exercise helps in maintaining a healthy weight, strengthening muscles, and improving cardiovascular health.

Students, in particular, benefit greatly from exercise. It improves concentration, reduces stress, and boosts energy levels, leading to better academic performance. Simple activities like jogging, cycling, or playing sports can make a significant difference.

Moreover, exercise prevents lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and heart problems. It releases endorphins, the "feel-good" hormones, which combat depression and anxiety.

Making exercise a daily habit requires discipline and commitment. Even 30 minutes of physical activity can transform our health. As the saying goes, "A healthy body houses a healthy mind." Let us pledge to incorporate exercise into our daily routine for a happier, healthier life.

3. Essay Writing (7 marks)

Question:

Write an essay on "Digital India" in about 200 words.

Answer:

Digital India

Digital India is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India to transform the country into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. This visionary program aims to provide high-speed internet connectivity, improve digital literacy, and make government services available online.

The initiative has three key focus areas: digital infrastructure, digital literacy, and delivery of services digitally. Under this program, numerous villages have been connected through broadband, and services like banking, education, and healthcare have become accessible through digital platforms. The introduction of Aadhaar, UPI payments, and e-governance portals has simplified administrative processes.

Digital India has revolutionized various sectors. Students can access quality education through online platforms, farmers receive weather updates and market prices on their mobile phones, and citizens can file taxes and apply for documents from home. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of digitalization when online classes and telemedicine became necessities.

However, challenges remain. The digital divide between urban and rural areas needs to be bridged, and cybersecurity concerns must be addressed. Despite these obstacles, Digital India has empowered millions and positioned India as a global leader in digital innovation. With continued effort, this initiative will create an inclusive, prosperous, and modern India.

3. Long Answer Questions (any 2) (12 marks - 6 marks each)

Question 1:

Describe the character of Bholi and how she transformed from a dumb cow to a confident girl.

Answer:

Bholi, whose real name was Sulekha, was the youngest daughter in Ramlal's family. She suffered a head injury as a child which affected her brain, and she also contracted smallpox that left permanent marks on her face. She stammered while speaking, and her family treated her with neglect, calling her a "dumb cow."

Everything changed when Bholi was sent to school. Her teacher was kind and encouraging, which boosted Bholi's confidence. She learned to read and write and began to dream of becoming independent. The teacher's words that she would become respected and no one would laugh at her gave Bholi hope.

The transformation was complete on her wedding day. When the greedy groom Bishamber demanded dowry after seeing her pockmarks, Bholi refused to marry him. She stood up against social injustice and declared she would serve her parents and teach in the same school. This showed her evolution from a timid, underconfident girl to a bold, self-respecting woman. Education empowered Bholi to fight against exploitation and make her own decisions.

Question 2:

How did Anil's kindness and trust reform Hari Singh in "The Thief's Story"?

Answer:

Hari Singh was an experienced thief who made friends with Anil to rob him. Anil was a simple, trusting writer who took Hari in, taught him to read and write, and promised to pay him regularly. Despite knowing that Hari stole small amounts from the daily grocery money, Anil never confronted him directly but showed he was aware through subtle hints.

One night, Hari stole Anil's money (600 rupees) and fled. However, as he stood at the railway station, his conscience troubled him. He realized that if he ran away, he would lose the education Anil was providing, the trust Anil had placed in him, and the opportunity to become a literate, respectable person. The thought that Anil would feel sad but not angry, and would only be disappointed, deeply affected Hari.

Hari returned and placed the money back under Anil's mattress. The next morning, Anil gave him a fifty-rupee note, and Hari noticed it was still damp from the night's rain, indicating that Anil knew about the theft. However, Anil's decision not to confront or punish him, but to continue trusting him, completed Hari's transformation. Anil's kindness, education, and unwavering trust reformed the thief into an honest person.

Question 3:

What is the central theme of the poem "Amanda"? How does Amanda's mother treat her?

Answer:

The poem "Amanda" by Robin Klein explores the conflict between a child's desire for freedom and parental strictness. Amanda is constantly nagged by her mother with instructions about her behavior, posture, and manners. The mother keeps telling her not to bite her nails, to sit up straight, to finish her homework, and to clean her room.

Amanda, feeling suffocated by these constant commands, escapes into her imagination. She dreams of being a mermaid drifting peacefully in the sea, an orphan roaming the streets freely, or Rapunzel living alone in a tower. These fantasies represent her longing for freedom and solitude, away from the continuous criticism and control.

The mother's treatment reflects overprotective and controlling parenting that doesn't consider the child's emotional needs. While the mother's intentions might be good, her approach is counterproductive, making Amanda withdraw into her dream world. The poem highlights the importance of balanced parenting that guides children without suffocating their individuality and freedom. It suggests that excessive control can make children rebellious or cause them to retreat into themselves rather than developing into confident, happy individuals.
